COVID Travel Updates
Keeping up with COVID-19 travel requirements can be tricky, but fortunately for our Irth Travelers entry to Costa Rica is relatively easy and we lay out everything for you right here!

As of January 2022, all international tourists are able to enter Costa Rica by land, air or sea, and you DO NOT need a negative COVID-19 test to be able to enter the country.

What you DO need is EITHER to be fully vaccinated OR have valid health insurance (this must comply with Costa Rica’s COVID requirements). You then need to fill out a Costa Rican Health Pass with this information within 72 hours and you are ready to go!

We will break this down even further:

VACCINATED TOURISTS
Vaccinated tourists do not need a negative COVID test, nor do they need valid travel insurance.
The last dose of the vaccine must have been applied at least 14 days prior to arrival in Costa Rica, and then your vaccine card must be attached to your Costa Rican Health Pass.
In the case of US travelers the ‘COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card’ will be accepted.
Documentation must all be submitted in ENGLISH or SPANISH. No other language will be accepted for review.

UNVACCINATED TOURISTS
Unvaccinated tourists (18 years and older) are required to purchase travel insurance that covers them for the duration of their trip in Costa Rica (minimum validity 5 days) and covers medical expenses due to COVID infection and any accommodation needed as a result of quarantine as a minimum.

(PASSENGERS IN TRANSIT MUST PURCHASE AT LEAST A 5 DAY POLICY)

Tourists can select any international insurance policy that meets these minimum requirements:
-
Covers the traveler for the entire duration of their stay in Costa Rica (dates of coverage)
-
$50,000 in medical expenses (INCLUDING COVID infection)
-
$2,000 for accommodation costs in the case of COVID quarantine
A certificate must be provided by the insurance company in ENGLISH or SPANISH that is then uploaded to the Costa Rican Health Pass. The certificate must include details of the above requirements as well as the name of the traveler.

INSURANCE CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN PLACE OF AN ACCEPTED POLICY CERTIFICATE!
