(Chirripo - Uvita - Osa) Route

  • 9 nights in the Central Valley and South Pacific.

  • 3 distinct locations in both mountain and beach settings.

  • Excellent locations for surfing and hiking.

  • Top pick for variety and fun!

This 9-night Irth adventure takes you from the Central Valley and then to some of the best spots in the South Pacific region of Costa Rica. You will travel to 3 distinct locations to experience the best of mountain, coastal and rainforest habitats, while taking in all of the epic scenery and wildlife that comes with them!

Your adventure starts in the country’s capital, San Jose, where you will get to soak up the city vibes for a night before heading out into the more remote areas of Costa Rica. You will have the chance to visit some awesome cultural and historic sites, like the Pre-Colombian Gold Museum, the bustling Mercado Central, and the lively bars and restaurants in Barrio Escalante.

You will start your second day in Costa Rica by taking your shuttle to the breathtaking Rio Chirripó Lodge, which is situated next to the fast-flowing Chirripó River, where you will be staying for the next two nights. Here you will experience a peaceful refuge from a bustling world, with lush gardens that produce fresh organic produce that will be served in some of their delicious dishes. Nearby you have the Chirripó National Park, which has the highest point in Costa Rica at its peak, as well as the Cloudbridge Nature Reserve that has powerful waterfalls and impressive flora at every turn. The scenery is breathtaking, and although some of the hikes can be tricky it is always comforting to know you will return to a wood-fire heated hot tub at the end of the day.

After 2 days of pure mountain bliss, you will take your shuttle down to the south Pacific coast for a welcome increase in humidity and temperature. Your first destination is Uvita, a developing town that sits between the beautiful protected beaches of the Bahia Ballena National Park (Whale Bay, called as such due to the coastline making the shape of a whale’s tail at low tide) and mountainous forested areas where you have access to stunning waterfalls and surrounding trails. You will have 2 nights in this spot where you are able to hike, surf, swim, or just simply take it all in!

After enjoying all that Uvita has to offer, your trip will then take you deeper south into the heart of the Osa Peninsula. Bosque del Cabo is a world renowned eco-lodge that has breathtaking views across the Golfo Dulce (the sweet gulf) and the Pacific ocean, thanks to its superb location at the very top of the hill overlooking the surfing point break of Cabo Matapalo. This location also means you are able to enjoy both sunrise and sunset views, getting full days of beautiful weather and vitamin D.

The Osa Peninsula was named one of the most biodiverse places on the planet by National Geographic, and it will become crystal clear why this is as soon as you arrive. Howler monkeys roaring in the surrounding rainforest, scarlet macaws chattering while they have breakfast in the almond trees, and small mammals scurrying around in the leaf litter below. This really is a tropical paradise, and an untouched natural world just waiting to be explored. If you think that 9 nights won’t be enough, check out our extended Osa package for a 12-night expedition that includes an overnight stay inside the Corcovado National Park!

This includes hiking/walking trails and especially off-trail adventure hiking. There are many risks, both natural and/or man-made, that could lead to injury or death while hiking, especially while off-trail adventure hiking.

For these reasons, it is the responsibility of our guests to learn the necessary skills for safe hiking and off-trail adventure hiking. All participants must assume responsibility for their own actions and safety, exercise sound judgment, be prepared for all conditions, and seek advice on current weather and current trail conditions.
